It’s Show Time!
At the Westfield School of Dance, we offer two seasonal opportunities for the dancers to showcase their talents. The first is a smaller dance concert-like venue; the second is our full-scale end of the season production.
In the Black Box:
WSOD’s Winter Performance is held in January or February at a small venue and showcases our dancers in the beginner levels and up in a dance concert like setting. The dancers who sign up for Winter Performance, pay a participation fee and are required to attend all scheduled rehearsals outside of their regularly scheduled classes. Students participating develop a broader understanding of the choreographic process from start to finish. This type of showcase also gives our teachers the opportunity to use their creativity and individual artistic strengths in creating unique and expressive choreographed pieces specific to the group of dancers that choose to perform in this setting.
On the Main Stage:
Our “Main Stage Production” occurs in the Spring at the end of our dance season, when the Westfield School of Dance produces an exciting show - a full scale themed production including costumes, back drop, scenery galore - that celebrates our entire school and the art of performing! The WSOD staff works hard deciding possible themes for the coming dance season. We announce the title of our show in November when costume measurements are taken along with an initial performance fee. Costumes are ordered over winter break while the staff continues to decide music, props, etc. Show music is introduced to the students at the end of January and students begin to learn choreography by the end of February. All classes continue with their regular lesson plans and syllabus throughout the spring while dances are learned and perfected. Our shows are a true family experiences for all who attend.
In both our Black Box and Main Stage productions, WSOD works with and includes other artists and performers whether singers, live musicians, magicians , puppetry etc. to perform, choreograph and create. We believe in fostering and teaching our dancers the benefit of all artistic collaborations.
All performance fees are 100% non—refundable
WSOD has also performed at Disney World, Street Fairs, Dance in the Park & several area nursing homes.
